He started his marketplaces career as Head of M&A at Prosus/Naspers, and then founded European Internet Ventures in 2010. Clients have included major strategic players such as Scout24 Group and Ringier, the large PE funds and Investment Banks, and about one hundred start ups seeking to raise capital or looking for new investors. Property Portals - The End of an Era or a New Golden Age?
Listed property portals continue to deliver record levels of revenues and profits, while the level of PE investment continues to grow with recent transactions in Idealista, Daft, and Property Finder. At the same time, AI threatens to disrupt the traditional portal model across multiple dimensions: via agentic search, via apps empowering agents to become less dependent on portals, and by new, AI-native platforms promising buyers a much more intuitive and personalised discovery/selection process. Malcolm's presentation will review both the challenges posed to portals by AI, while also looking at some of the ways AI can make portals become stronger businesses.
